Strawberry Pass Wheeling & CampingWell, all in all I would say we had a successful trip! We had 3 full size rigs. RCG took the chopped up Suburban and his guest Tony, as well as DJ & Woody (dogs), Chris Petersen and his girlfriend Jen took a stock Ford Bronco and me (Dan) and Bill took the 1984 Broncoitis along with Bill's son Billy and my dog, Rocky.

We all met RCG at a camp spot he got earlier in the day around10pm Friday night, we ate some dinner, drank some beers and hung out around the fire. We turned in around 1 am. In the morning we had some breakfast, packed up and were on the trail by around 930 am.

I was elected to lead the way. We all negotiated the waterfall fairly easily...we continued through the windy areas of the trail and let groups of Jeeps, ATV's and dirtbikes go past us. Our most formidable challenge was the painted rock obstacle. I went first, I almost got throu but high centered on a large flat rock. The other guys lifted the ass end of the broncoitis and i was able to drive off the jack and make it through.

Next was Chris in the stock bronco. Chris was experiencing serious problems with clearance and traction, and if that wasn't bad enough his hi pressure power steering hose went south. A lot of jacking, rock stacking and balls to the walls foot to the floor driving got him through.

At this time it started to rain and hail heavily and the temperature had seriously dropped. Cold hands were making it difficult to operate the Hi Lifts and stacking rocks. RCG took 3 or 4 runs at the rocks finally high centering on his driveline on a large flat rock. We took the same approaced with jacking and stacking but the Suburban wanted to fall off the jack alot. So we would jack it up and push it off the jack repeatedly until the driveline and rearend were clear. The whole painted rock process took nearly 3 hrs.

I fired ub the broncoitis and headed up towards squeeze rock. At this time the hail looked like snow on the ground...it had been hailing / raining heavily for about an hour and a half. As I took my first line I slipped over and into the tree causing a nice battle scar on the L front fender. I repeatedly tried to get through with the help of Bill spotting me but the lack of traction made it impossible. We also determined that the stock bronco would not make it and that the Suburban was just too long.

We all turned around and headed back down the trail. RCG made it back through painted rock without any issues. Chris had some problems getting back through. RCG pulled Chris through the obstacle. While they were working on that, I removed my half door that wouldn't shut due to the new battle scar at the squeeze.

It was my turn to go back through the painted rock obstacle and I made it through without the help of a Hi Lift.

We continued back down the trail. RCG slipped off a rock and into a tree and Chris was sble to snatch him off the rock and we continued. Both Chris and I needed Bill to spot us in a few places but we all made it back to basecamp around 530 pm.

We got all the Hi Lifts, straps and tools back with the right rigs and Chris and Jen took off.

The remainder of us hung out and got the fire going. We attempted to dry our clothes, warm up and we had some dinner before the long trip with no doors and nowindows in the rain and cold. We hit HWY 50 Westbound at about 915pm.

Awesome trip! Awesome People! Really had a lot of fun!
